Following the viral circulation of a leaked intimate video last year, Ghanaian news broadcaster, Serwaa Amihere, revealed that she spiraled into depression during that challenging period.
Speaking at the Ignite Youth Empowerment Thanksgiving Service, she recounted how she overcame the difficult time with the support of her close friend, Obuobia Darko-Opoku.
“I was depressed and crying at home that day,” she shared. “I wasn’t talking to anyone, but she came to pick me up and said, ‘Let’s go and buy ice cream.’ She took me to Osu, and I remember trying to wear a cap. She asked, ‘Why? Why do you want to hide your face? Let’s go.’ She bought me a big cup of ice cream and told me to eat as much as I could.”

Reflecting on the tumultuous period and the backlash she faced as the video circulated on social media, Serwaa also used the opportunity to caution young girls about making impulsive decisions. She emphasized how such choices could resurface in the future with negative consequences.
“I went through an extremely difficult year last year,” she said. “I’m not old; I’m still young but older than many of you here. I want to repeat this: be extremely careful about the decisions you make. Six, seven, five, or even two years later, they might come back to haunt you. That’s exactly what happened to me.”
The leaked intimate video, involving Serwaa Amihere and businessman Henry Fitz, was originally recorded in 2019 but surfaced on April 2, 2024. Its circulation triggered widespread media outrage and prompted an investigation by her employer, EIB Network.
In a press statement dated July 5, 2024, EIB Network announced that its thorough investigation found “no form of misconduct or breaches” on Serwaa’s part. The statement also confirmed that criminal proceedings were underway against Henry Fitz and others responsible for distributing the video online.
Amid the controversy, Serwaa Amihere issued an apology on social media on April 24, 2024.
“Sincerely, I say sorry for the embarrassment, disappointment, and frustration that this matter has caused my family and loved ones, as well as the distinguished businesses and brands I represent,” she wrote.
