We are indebted to Ghana – Steel Pulse

RENOWNED Reggae band, Steel Pulse say they are indebted to Ghanaians for accepting them.

The group, which is in Ghana as the headline act for the Independence Bash, which will come off tonight at the Grand Arena inside the Accra International Conference Centre, said they are happy to be part of the country’s 63rd independence celebrations.

“We have over the years had our share of not being accepted because of the messages our songs carried, however it is Africans who have held us till now and so we have always wanted to connect with the diaspora and being here is a great feeling and we are grateful.

“We are glad to be celebrating with the African country who first gained independence and we are looking forward to having a great time,” they said at a media engagement on Friday, March 6.

On what patrons should expect at the concert, organised by Charterhouse and the Multimedia Group Steel Pulse said, “fun, but most importantly the lyrics of the songs, the messages our songs carry, is something they should take home at the end of the day.

“Again we ask that people come out in their numbers to support us so that we will feel the love and be in a hurry to come back to Ghana again and again.”

Giving insight into how the idea to bring Steel Pulse to Ghana came about, CEO of Charterhouse, Theresa Ayoade said it was mainly nostalgia that led to their selection.

“While brainstorming on what to do as part of 20 years of our existence coupled with Multimedia’s 25 years, we thought of bringing an artiste that will resonate with those who were around 20-25 years ago.

“We wanted to bring that the nostalgic feeling and Steel Pulse came to mind. Personally, I have jammed to their songs a lot of times.

“On the Ghanaian front, we thought of who had also been in existence and was still relevant all these years, Kojo Antwi came to mind and interestingly, this is not the first time Steel Pulse is sharing a stage with Kojo Antwi,” she told the media.
