Asantehene Gets Jab of COVID-19 Vaccine as Nationwide Rollout Begins

The Asantehene, Otumfou Osei Tutu II,  on Tuesday morning received his first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, our sources can confirm.

The Asantehene and other staff at the Manhyia palace were vaccinated after health professionals went to the palace with the doses of the vaccine.

According to the Ghana Health Service, the Ashanti Region is expected to administer 140,000 doses out of the 600,000 doses Ghana has received so far within the Greater Kumasi and Obuasi metropolis for the first phase of the vaccination.

The directorate, according Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang, will be working with 120 teams who have been positioned at various health centers to give vaccine to eligible persons.

Meanwhile, vaccination is expected to happen in three regions (Greater Accra, Ashanti and Central) and in 43 Districts. These areas, according to president Akufo-Addo, have been marked as epicenters of the virus in the country.
