Three young Ghanaian students who were candidates of the 2020 the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have swept all the top three International Excellence awards instituted by Council.
The award seeks to honour candidates with outstanding performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The three students —Cecil Tetteh Kumah, Godfred Aseda Obeng and Afua Manukure Ansah— who were beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School programme and part of the first batch to graduate from the programme swept the top three positions of the award.
Master Cecil Tetteh Kumah, a former student of Mfantsipim Senior High School, was adjudged the Overall Best Student in the 2020 WASSCE with a total score of 650.1328. The exams was written by over two million candidates from the five participating countries in West Africa. For his prize, Master Kumah was presented with a cheque for $1,500.

The second Overall Best student went to Mr Godfred Aseda Obeng from Hope College at Gomoa Fete. He had a total score of 625. 6953. He was also presented with a cheque of $1,200.
Ms Afua Manukure Ansah who took the Overall Third Best had a total score of 624. 640 and an old student of Achimota.Currently studying at the Cornell University, USA, she was also presented with a cheque of $900.
Earlier, president Akufo-Addoo had congratulated them saying “the three award winners are Ghanaians who are beneficiaries of the free SHS policy”, according to Myjoyonline.com.
He urged prospective candidates in the region to learn from the success chalked up by the three.
