The Zongo Development Fund is set to commission about 119 completed projects in zongo communities all across the country.
This new development was revealed in a tweet by the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“The Zongo Development Fund (ZDF) is to start the commissioning of 119 completed infrastructure projects in Zongo communities across the country. Well done ZDF!, ” the Vice President Tweeted.
The projects include school blocks, community centers and other facilities needed by the zongo communities.
The Zongo Development Fund was set up as part of government’s effort to develop the zongo communities. Zongo communities are typically deprived settlements mostly occupied muslims in Ghana.
The fund was set up with seed funding of GHc 219.5 million. The Fund will support the provision of critical infrastructure in education and training, health and sanitation, local businesses and centres of culture, as well as improve security in the Zongo communities. The ZoDF is expected to leverage its seed fund to attract additional funding form international partners, private sector institutions, civil society organizations, and other non-governmental organisations.
