Review Alert: Nouveau May be the New Place for Foodies in Accra

I recently found a gem of a place right here in Accra that hits the nail on the head of the three points.

As a certified foodie, eating good food is more than just filling my belly, it is an experience. The flavors dancing on your tastebuds, the creativity that goes into the art of cooking (yes, cooking is an art), and even the ambiance in which you eat are all intricate parts of the experience. I recently found a gem of a place right here in Accra that hits the nail on the head of the three points.

Established in 2023, Nouveau (pronounced noo-vow) is a new upscale hotel and restaurant on the scene, and I could not wait to try it and give my review and rating.

Restaurant Name: Nouveau

Location: 117 La-Bawaleshi Rd

Date Visited: March 11, 2024

Atmosphere: 7/10

The minimal yet intentional décor of Nouveau gave it an atmosphere of simple luxury. It is a place where influencers can come and take pictures and videos because of how clean and aesthetically pleasing the environment is. There is an outdoor space as well with a vine wall which also serves as a great photo spot.

Service: 8.5/10

I was very pleased with the service. I was greeted upon arrival and our wonderful waiter kept coming to check on us and make sure we didn’t need anything.  He was very friendly and very helpful when we had questions about some of the dishes. Another staff member was even kind enough to take my friend and I’s picture all while keeping a warm smile on his face.

Food Quality: 8.5/10

The food was magnificent, we ordered the “Nutty Chicken Curry” and the “Stir Fried Shrimp Noodles”. Both dishes were flavorful and were a good portion size. I anticipated the Curry dish to be similar to an Indian Curry, but it had more of an African twist. The nutty flavor was not overpowering, which was great. The Stir-Fried Shrimp Noodles had a nice spicy kick which complemented the oriental flavors.

Price: 7/10

Since it’s on the more bougie side, of course the prices also must reflect that. The least expensive meal on the menu is the 65 ghc for the “Greek Style Yogurt” which is basically a yogurt bowl with fruit, and the most expensive thing on the menu is the “Lamb Chops” with creamy sweet mash for 380ghc. However, with the quality of the food and service I believe it is worth it.

Special Features: 9/10

Nouveau does have an ‘All Day Breakfast/Brunch Menu’ with bottomless Mimosa, Sangria or Belini. I must also note that they have the best cocktails; not too strong, not watered down, and a bonus that the bartender is a woman which I haven’t seen to be that common.

Overall Experience:

Overall, I would give Nouveau a strong 8/10. If you’re looking for a cute place to brunch or to grab a drink during happy hour, this is the perfect place.
