The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC on February 2, 2025, at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.
The clash resulted in the tragic death of one person.
The suspects, identified as Ignatius Baffour Awuah, former minister of employment under the Akufo-Addo administration, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph, are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
A search of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu’s residence led to the discovery of two bloodstained dresses and an MP 23 pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, raising serious concerns about the nature of the incident.

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has personally reached out to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC to express condolences on behalf of the police. He assured them of a thorough investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice.
In response to the incident, a special investigative team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters has been deployed to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in handling the case.
The violent clashes have sparked widespread concern over safety at football matches in Ghana, with calls for stricter security measures to prevent future incidents. Authorities have urged calm as investigations continue.
