Vybz Kartel Applauds Rocky Dawuni’s Grammy Recognition

Jamaican dancehall artiste, Vybz Kartel, has commended Ghanaian Afro-roots artiste Rocky Dawuni for earning four Grammy nominations.

The Jamaican icon posted on social media when after meeting Rocky Dawuni at the recently concluded 67th edition of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The two engaged in a heartfelt discussion about their respective music genres and their impact.

“If you’ve been nominated four times, then it means you’re doing something good,” said Vybz Kartel, who earned his first-ever Grammy nomination, expressing admiration for Rocky Dawuni’s achievements over the years.

Rocky Dawuni, an Afro-roots artiste blending reggae, soul, Afrobeats, and highlife, has gained global recognition for his conscious music and activism. He has received four Grammy nominations, including:

  • Best Reggae Album for Branches of the Same Tree (2015)

  • Best Global Music Album for Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1 (2022)

  • Best Global Music Performance for “Neva Bow Down” (2023)

  • Best Global Music Performance for his single “Rise” (2025)

Despite being the only Ghanaian to secure four Grammy nominations in a row, Rocky Dawuni has yet to win a Grammy plaque.
