Grammy Award-winning musician, Tems, has been unveiled as the newest partner of the American soccer team San Diego F.C.
San Diego Football Club, set to debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) this year, announced the partnership with the Nigerian singer after she acquired an ownership stake through her company, The Leading Vibe.
The “Lift Me Up” songwriter expressed her excitement about joining the soccer club’s ownership board.
“I am so excited to be a part of San Diego FC’s ownership group and this project, especially with the club’s Right to Dream academy nurturing young talent. I believe this is going to impact so many,” she said.
She proclaimed her love for the sport and remarked that music and soccer are intertwined in the way they create opportunities for young and talented individuals.
“I have always loved soccer and have always been a fan of the sport. Music and sports are kind of similar—they provide opportunities for young talent and the next generation,” she added.
The club’s CEO, Tom Penn, welcomed the singer, highlighting her impact in music and her commitment to empowering young talent.
“Tems is an extraordinary artist and a cultural force worldwide. We are honored to have her join our club and bring her visionary perspective to San Diego FC,” Penn said.
Tems is the first African woman to join San Diego’s list of influential partners, which includes actress Issa Rae, footballer Juan Mata, MLB star Manny Machado, and retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink.
