Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato-Forson, has announced his government’s decision to scrap the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) and the Betting Tax.
The Minister made this announcement earlier today, Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in parliament during the maiden budget speech of the John Mahama-Naana Agyeman government.
“We have programmed the following taxes for removal in line with our manifesto promises. Mr speaker, we will abolish the 10% tax on winnings from the lottery,” he said.
He also indicated, among many other things, his government’s plans to scrap the emission tax levy on industries and vehicles, the VAT on motor vehicle insurance policy, as well as the 1.5% tax withholding tax on winning of unprocessed gold by small-scale miners.
The finance minister also hinted at his government’s optimism of alleviating the plight of Ghanaians and cushioning their fiscal space.
“The removal of these taxes will ease the burden on households and improve their disposable income. It will support business growth and improve tax compliance,” the Finance Minister stated.
