Black Sherif Names Billie Eilish’s When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? His Perfect 10 Album

Ghana’s breakout star, Black Sherif, just revealed the album that helped shape his creative journey — and it’s not what you’d expect.

Ghana’s breakout star, Black Sherif, recently opened up about the album that left a lasting impact on his life — Billie Eilish’s When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

In a recent feature on Pitchfork’s Perfect 10 series, Black Sherif named Billie Eilish’s 2019 debut album, When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? as his all-time favorite.

The Second Sermon hitmaker shared how the project became his personal anthem during a confusing chapter of his life right after high school.

“I wasn’t going to university, and I was confused as hell because where was I going?” Blacko admitted.

It was during this period that he stumbled upon a YouTube clip of Billie Eilish performing Wish You Were Gay. Captivated by the lyrics and the clever way Billie arranged numbers from six down to one within the song, he called it “genius.”

That small detail opened the door to the entire album, finding himself drawn into the album’s genius.

That single performance led him to listen to the entire album, and it resonated deeply. While he enjoyed several tracks, When The Party’s Over quickly became his favorite.

Another standout for him was Ilomilo, not necessarily for its lyrics but for the raw emotion embedded in the sound.

“It made me pay attention to the feeling of music—like not understanding the words, but understanding the emotion the artist was trying to portray,” he explained.

In the same breath, Black Sherif urged fans to check out his sophomore album, Iron Boy, which he described as a reflection of everything he is and everything he believes he will become.
