Africa.com is set to host two major virtual events aimed at spotlighting Africa’s progress and leadership on the global stage. These livestreams, accessible to audiences across the continent and around the world, will feature global philanthropist Bill Gates and some of Africa’s most inspiring changemakers.
The first event will feature Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation, delivering a special address reflecting on Africa’s development journey. He will speak about the partnerships and progress that have shaped the continent’s growth and share what inspired his recent pledge to increase his foundation’s giving to $200 billion over the next two decades. Gates will also outline what more is needed to drive lasting and meaningful impact in Africa.
The event will bring together government officials, members of the diplomatic community, policymakers, development partners, youth innovators, and changemakers.
“This is a moment to recognise the tremendous progress African countries have made and to recommit to the power of working together to build a better future,” Teresa Clarke, Chair and CEO of Africa.com, noted.
The second event, Africa in Motion, takes place on June 4, 2025, at 6:30 PM WAT, and celebrates African-led progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Themed “The Future of Progress: Africa in Motion”, the event will be hosted in Lagos and livestreamed to a global audience.
This dynamic program will feature inspiring African leaders, including Ifeoluwa Dare-Johnson, CEO of Healthtracka; Lehlé Baldé, Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 media leader; Folly Bah Thibault, Al Jazeera English presenter and girls’ education advocate; and Eniola Mafe-Abaga, Global Advocacy Director at Bridges to Prosperity.
The event will also include musical performances curated by Nigerian hip-hop icon MI Abaga, with popular television host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu leading the evening.
Audiences will experience powerful stories of innovation in health, gender equality, economic opportunity, and local solutions driving sustainable development despite global challenges. The 75-minute event is free to watch, with Africa.com encouraging Africans and friends of Africa everywhere to register and join the conversation.
