- Mr. Ofori-Atta's family says the OSP's actions are an abuse of power.
- The family has also called for the withdrawal of the INTERPOL Red Notice on him.
The Family of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has made its first public statement since the controversy surrounding the investigation of the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) emerged.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is considered a suspect in five cases the OSP is investigating. Some of these cases are related to the controversial National Cathedral project.
Last week, the OSP re-declared him a wanted person and placed the former Finance Minister on the Interpol Red Notice.
But in a statement on Thursday, Ofori-Atta’s family described the OSP’s actions as an abuse of power by the OSP, citing manipulation of evidence and human rights violations by the latter.

The family is also calling for the withdrawal of the INTERPOL Red Notice and has applied to the National Central Bureau and the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files for deletion of the Red Notice.
“After the fact of the unlawful declaration of Hon. Ofori-Atta by MEDIA BRIEFING as a wanted person and fugitive from justice, it came to light that the OSP may have manipulated evidence to procure an Arrest Warrant dated 11th February 2025. To date, the OSP has no charge stated against Mr. Ofori-Atta apart from what is stated on the Arrest Warrant as ‘Using Public office for private profit’, ” the statement said.
“The Arrest Warrant was procured under unusual circumstances. The court records are not clear as to how the OSP secured the Arrest Warrant without a filed affidavit, which is a matter pending in court for which the INTERPOL office at the Ghana Police Service had been served. The Special Prosecutor’s actions fit into the definition of Vendetta for making the destruction of life a sport for political audiences,” they said further.
Meanwhile, the statement said Mr. Ofori-Atta will be in Ghana for the OSP’s interrogation, although a date for his arrival was not stated.
“Once Mr. Ofori-Atta’s surgical procedure is over and the necessary treatment and
recuperation has taken place, he will return to Ghana at the appropriate time and meet with the OSP in-person.”
