President John Mahama has ordered Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives to declare their assets by July 15, 2025, in line with transparency measures his administration has set to implement.
The president made the announcement on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, during the opening of an orientation programme for all MMDCES.
“I expect that by July 15, all of you will have declared your assets,” he stated. “If any institutions start investigating you, do not expect me to interfere on your behalf,” he said.

The law on asset declaration in Ghana mandates public office holders to declare their assets and liabilities before assuming office and upon leaving office.
The Mahama administration appears determined to make appointees comply with these laws, as previous reports had found many public office holders in violation of asset declaration rules. The government also says it forms part of broader accountability measures as it implements the “reset agenda” to strengthen local governance and service delivery.
In February, the president publicly presented his completed asset declaration forms to the Auditor-General as a signal to his appointees that the government is serious about the matter.
President Mahama also instructed his appointees to declare their assets by March 31, 2025, warning that sanctions would apply for failure to comply. However, a Fourth Estate report found that some ministers still did not meet this deadline.
The president then took disciplinary action, ordering appointees who failed to meet the March deadline to forfeit three months of salary.
