Gov’t Sets July 2 for Launch of Flagship 24hr Economy Initiative

The 24-hour economy is a major campaign promise of the ruling government. The policy, although it's yet to be unveiled, is anchored on a 24-hour shift system in sectors such as agriculture, health, and the business industry.

Government is set to launch its flagship initiative for a 24-hour economy on July 2, 2025.

“On Wednesday, July 2, the president will launch the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Development Programme,” said Goosie Tanoh, the Presidential Advisor charged to spearhead the policy framework.

Mr. Tanoh made the announcement when he presented the 24-hour document to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, on Friday.

The 24-hour economy is a major campaign promise of the ruling government. The policy, although it’s yet to be unveiled, is anchored on a 24-hour shift system in sectors such as agriculture, health, and the business industry.

The launch would eventually give a roadmap as to how the government will move with implementation, and allow civil society to also make evaluations on the effectiveness of the policy.

What does this mean for you?

For consumers, the policy’s rollout may enable access to certain government services at any time of the day.

Parliament, the Speaker hinted, may also implement its own 24-hour policy. He justified the decision on the basis of increasing workload among parliamentary staff, especially following a recent change in the House’s sitting hours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“This means they are going to work more hours; they will report at 8:00 a.m. and may leave as late as 10:00 or 11:00 p.m.—especially those in the official divisions of Parliament,” he noted.
