On Martyrs’ Day, the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) called for a review of the decision to suspend the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.
Speaking at the ceremony on Monday, President of the GBA, Effua Ghartey, expressed concern over the implications of the Chief Justice’s suspension, warning that it could set a dangerous precedent for the country’s judiciary.
“In the spirit of reconciliation, all the various calls made for a reconsideration of the suspension of the Chief Justice in the circumstances, as it sets a poor precedent, will not go unheeded. We yearn for peace and strive for peace,” she said.

At a recent press conference, Justice Torkornoo raised concerns over the conduct of the committee hearing petitions for her removal, indicating her rights had been violated. This news conference came after a failed attempt to have the Supreme Court place an injunction on the process for her removal.
