Agradaa Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Money Doubling Scam

Agradaa was convicted on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. Her conviction comes on the back of her 2022 televised broadcasts, in which she claimed to possess spiritual powers to double money.

Popular Ghanaian traditional priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Agradaa was convicted on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. Her conviction comes on the back of her 2022 televised broadcasts, in which she claimed to possess spiritual powers to double money.

Prosecutors said her claims led several individuals to part with large sums of money in hopes of miraculous financial returns — promises that were never fulfilled.

Some of the complainants pegged the amount at GHC 540.00. Her lawyers say the sentence is harsh and that they may appeal.

“We do not agree with the judgment and we will take the next necessary steps,” her lawyer Richard Asare Baffour said in an interview with Channel One TV.

Ahead of her sentencing, the court had ordered a mandatory pregnancy test, which confirmed she was not pregnant, paving the way for the sentencing to proceed.

Agradaa has for a while now remained a controversial figure in Ghana’s social circles.
