The New Patriotic Party’s proposed amendment to reduce the age limit for the position of Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 40 to 35 has been rejected by delegates at the party’s just-ended NPP Delegates Conference held at the UG Sports Stadium.
The amendment, which formed part of the party’s broader set of constitutional reviews aimed at restructuring internal party leadership, was put to a vote during the conference. However, a majority of delegates voted to maintain the existing age cap of 40 years, effectively reverting to the status quo.
Speaking earlier at the National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the National Youth Organiser of the party, Salam Mustapha, kicked against the amendment, citing it as controversial and unnecessary, as the current plan had served the party well.

“We’ve been using this system and it has worked quite well over the period. We don’t see the reason why we are going to fix something that is not broken. We are okay with the 40H threshold that we have right now, which is operating. We want it left there, and any attempt to push it down further, we are not going to accept,” he stated.
This development means aspirants up to 40 years old remain eligible to contest for the Youth Organiser role at the national, regional and constituency levels ahead of the party’s internal elections.
The NPP’s National Delegates Conference, which took place in Accra, was attended by thousands of delegates from across the country. Fifty-five other constitutional proposals were also reviewed, with one other proposed amendment rejected as the party continues its preparations for the 2028 general elections.
