The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the government has fully cleared all arrears of the Capitation Grant owed to basic schools from 2023 to date.

In a press release issued Tuesday, July 23, 2025, the GES said the payments reflect the government’s firm commitment to supporting basic education through timely funding.

“These arrears cover the period from 2023 to date,” the statement read, adding that the funds would support smooth operations in public basic schools across the country.

The Ghana Education Service also praised the Ministries of Education and Finance for ensuring the disbursement despite ongoing economic pressures, calling it a “practical show of resolve” to prioritise education.

“We further commend all heads of basic schools for their patience and continued dedication in ensuring that teaching and learning have remained uninterrupted,” the statement said.

School leaders have also been urged to use the funds responsibly and in line with existing financial guidelines, with GES monitoring teams at district and regional levels stepping up oversight to ensure accountability and value for money.

Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, signed off the release with a reaffirmation of GES’s commitment to improving learning outcomes, strengthening school management systems, and ensuring inclusive, equitable education for all Ghanaian children.
