The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for its flagbearership race ahead of the party’s January 31, 2026, primaries.
Announcing the process on Tuesday, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong indicated that the process is set to close on August 28, 2025.
“I’m happy to announce to you that we have officially opened nominations for our party members to become presidential candidates of our party for the 2028 elections,” Kodua said.

Interested aspirants are required to pay a filing fee of GH₵500,000 and a non-refundable amount of GH₵100,000 for nomination forms.
Ahead of nominations opening, some key party members have already expressed interest in contesting as flagbearer. These include former flagbearer in the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin-Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The coming days would see the camps of each of these candidates intensify their campaigns on the road to the party primaries in 2026.
