The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has suspended the production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix with immediate effect, citing serious safety and quality violations at the manufacturer’s facility.
According to an official release, the suspension follows a market recall of all Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products in pouches – specifically the 380g and 1.05kg sizes – due to public health concerns.
The FDA’s investigation into Nutrifoods Ghana Limited uncovered multiple infractions, including poor equipment maintenance and inadequate quality control systems.

“These lapses compromised product integrity,” the FDA stated, pointing to contamination risks from sealing defects and mould growth in some batches. The investigation revealed bloating in pouches and raised safety alarms, prompting swift regulatory action.
Nutrifoods had already been barred from producing the mix in January 2025. The FDA says it has launched internal investigations to determine whether additional regulatory breaches occurred, and any staff found negligent could face disciplinary measures.
Consumers, retailers, and wholesalers are being advised to comply with the directive and cease distribution of the affected products immediately. The FDA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, saying it will enforce strict regulatory oversight moving forward.
Before the FDA’s suspension, Nutrifoods had issued a voluntary recall on August 1, 2025, covering 210g and 400g canned tomato mixes, alongside affected pouch batches. The company attributed the move to FDA and National Security directives after reports of bloating.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience caused to our consumers and trade partners. We are committed to delivering high-quality products meeting all required national food safety standards,” Nutrifoods said in its statement.
