The Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations is inviting religious leaders nationwide to submit any prophecy or spiritual insight of national significance to their office for urgent review.
This comes in the wake of videos of Ghanaian Men of God claiming to have had visions of the August 6 helicopter crash that resulted in the deaths of Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others.
“Any prophecy or spiritual insight of a national nature, especially those with implications for high-profile political leaders, governance, national security, or public stability should be formally relayed to the Office of the Presidential Envoy for urgent review and appropriate escalation,” a statement signed by Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidential Envoy for the Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations said on Sunday.

The statement also appealed for intense prayers for the President, the government, state institutions, and the bereaved family.
For many Ghanaians, this directive sounds like a first, and even for the office that made the request. Some also question the possibility of implications for religious freedom.
If I once worked in the regime that gave us PNDC Law 221, a law that infringed on religious freedoms, I wouldn’t issue any directives that resemble it today, especially under a democratic government. But hey, why bother with history when there’s power… https://t.co/02F5sZRvg3

However, clarifying on Monday, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah noted that the request was an attempt to ensure that messages with potential national security implications are handled responsibly.
“Most of us are aware of various and diverse video, audio clips, TikTok posts of all kinds, since the unfortunate incidents of last Wednesday occurred. Most of them, when we go behind this, do not have any means of getting in touch with the individuals concerned or officials. And so we decided that it was important that we create an avenue and a channel to be able to manage some of these things, because a lot of them have serious security implications,” he said on JoyNews’ AM Show.
