Paul Afoko Declares Bid for NPP National Chairmanship

Mr. Afoko has indicated plans to engage with party faithful and the media in the coming weeks to share his ideas and vision for the party, built on integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has officially declared his intention to contest the chairmanship position of the party once again.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Mr. Afoko said his decision follows “extensive reflection and encouragement” from party members, supporters, and stakeholders who believe in his leadership and commitment to the founding values of the NPP.

According to him, the move is not a hasty one but comes after “careful consideration” and a response to the growing call for renewed leadership rooted in the party’s democratic ideals.

“My commitment to the NPP has remained steadfast through the years, and I believe the time has come to contribute, once again, to the rebuilding and strengthening of our Party at this critical juncture,” he said.

Mr. Afoko acknowledged the challenges the party has faced in recent times but emphasized that his focus remains on unity, progress, and the future of the NPP. He said the party must stand “re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promise to the Ghanaian people.”

He also indicated plans to engage with party faithful and the media in the coming weeks to share his ideas and vision for the party, built on integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose.

“Let us look ahead together. God bless the NPP, and God bless our dear country,” he urged.

Mr. Afoko previously served as National Chairman of the NPP until his suspension in 2015. His re-entry into the race is expected to stir interest within the party as it prepares for the next national executive elections.

He adds to the growing list of people who have hinted at their intention to run for the chairmanship race, including former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, former General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu and Chairman Wontumi.
