The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, to have the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare, removed.
The MP wrote to the Speaker on Monday, November 3, stating that his request aimed to safeguard the integrity and dignity of Parliament, as he questioned the committee chair’s accountability drive following her tenure as deputy finance minister in the erstwhile administration.
“Her close association with the Ministry of Finance during the tenure of Ken Ofori-Atta- a period defined by reckless borrowing, fiscal indiscipline, and multiple controversial contracts – undermines the credibility of her leadership,” he said.
He also cited a time she defended the former Ghana Revenue Authority boss, Rev Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, over a question about his age when they both appeared before the same committee during her time as deputy minister.
According to him, the issues currently before the Public Accounts Committee occurred during the period when Abena Osei Asare served as Deputy Minister of Finance, making her position as PAC Chair a conflict of interest.

The Public Accounts Committee is the parliamentary body mandated to examine the Auditor-General’s report on Ghana’s public accounts. The Chairperson, who is chosen from the opposition, presides over the Committee, except when matters relate to their party’s administration, in which case the Ranking Member assumes chairmanship.
