On Thursday, Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson presented the 2026 budget to Parliament.
This budget outlines the government’s next direction of spending for the 2026 fiscal year and policy direction.
On Thursday, the finance minister said the budget focuses on three strategic priorities — sustaining fiscal discipline and responsible debt management, investing in infrastructure and agriculture to boost job creation, and improving education, healthcare, and security to promote inclusive growth.
Some taxes, including the COVID-19 recovery levy, have been tabled to be repealed. This means the 1% covid levy would no longer be the tax books.
The minister also noted a number of new bills would be brought before Parliament. These incluide;
The Value for Money Bill;
The Virtual Asset Services Providers Bill;
The Value Added Tax Bill
