Director Ryan Coogler has confirmed that the third installment of Marvel’s Black Panther franchise will be his next project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Director Ryan Coogler has confirmed that the third installment of Marvel’s Black Panther franchise will be his next project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Ryan Coogler disclosed the news during a panel for his upcoming film Sinners at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event. When Deadline co-editor-in-chief Mike Fleming Jr. asked about the future of Black Panther, Coogler responded:

“If it was anybody but you asking this question, I would say I can neither confirm nor deny… But we’re working on it hard. So yeah, it’s the next movie.”

The two-time Oscar-nominated director, who helmed the first two Black Panther films, intends to complete the trilogy that began in 2018 with the late Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), Letitia Wright’s Princess Shuri assumed the mantle of the Black Panther following Boseman’s passing.

Although Ryan Coogler shared no specific details about the title, release date, or cast, speculation has grown that a new actor may recast the role of T’Challa as King of Wakanda.

Marvel has not yet officially announced the film or its release date, though industry rumors suggest the studio is targeting 2028.
