Seasoned Ghanaian actor William Addo has passed away at the age of 72 following a prolonged illness.
According to reports, the actor was diagnosed with a severe combination of glaucoma and cataracts in 2018. Despite undergoing multiple eye surgeries, he lost his sight completely in 2019.
As his health continued to decline, leaving him with mounting medical bills, the actor issued a public appeal for financial assistance. He also sought support to establish a corn mill business that would generate sustainable income to cover his medical expenses.

Many Ghanaians responded generously, including media personalities Kwame Sefa Kayi and Bola Ray, who funded his earlier surgeries.
The actor later passed away on November 22, 2025.
Affectionately known as “Apkaptse” (Trickster) for his comedic and witty performances, William Addo rose to national prominence during the early days of Ghanaian television series and films.
He was a lecturer in the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts, and served as Artistic Director of popular Key Soap Concert Party Show at the National Theatre.
Throughout his career, William Addo held several positions including Research Assistant and later, Senior Research Assistant at the School of Performing Arts (1980–1991), Artistic Director of the Get Involved Theatre Group, and General Secretary of the Ghana Centre of the International Theatre Institute.
His influence on Ghanaian theatre and television spanned decades, during which he shaped and mentored generations of the country’s finest actors and filmmakers.
