TGMA 2026: Group of the Year Category to Be Announced This Week – Robert Klah

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with hosts Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, Klah clarified that the TGMA board is done with the vetting processes for the category, with nominees expected to be released within the week.

Robert Klah, head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse, organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), has confirmed that the omitted Group of the Year category will be announced this week.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with hosts Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, Klah clarified that the TGMA board is done with the vetting processes for the category, with nominees expected to be released soon.

“Oh yeah, it will be announced this week. It could even be today,” he said.

Robert Klah dismissed speculations that the category had been cancelled, stressing that the board never made such an announcement. He explained that some categories were deliberately withheld initially and would be unveiled in due course.

“The Group of the Year category has not been cancelled. We never announced that it has been cancelled. What we said was that there were some categories we had not released and those categories will be released,” he noted.

He added that other pending categories include African Song of the Year and Music for Good, with the latter being announced earlier than usual to highlight positive impact through music.

“Music for Good, we usually announce it later but we are going to announce it early because we want people to understand what happens in that space. So if you announce it early then people will see that these are the works that have been done. It can inspire people to use their music to do good,” he explained.

When asked why some announcements were delayed, Klah said certain details could not be shared publicly at this stage.

“There are quite a number of things I may not be able to share… But the reality is that we did announce that some of the categories that were not announced would be announced later,” he added.

Robert Klah’s comments come after the initial nomination list sparked dissatisfaction among collective music groups over the absence of the Group of the Year category.

Some industry stakeholders have argued that removing the category would be unfair, citing the need to recognise group artistry and competitiveness in the Ghanaian music scene.
