Nigerian DJ Association Imposes Temporary Ban on Burna Boy Songs After Clash with DJ Tunez

The Nigerian DJ Association has imposed a temporary ban on Burna Boy’s songs, instructing disc jockeys across Nigeria to exclude the artist from their setlists following his physical clash with DJ Tunez.

The Nigerian DJ Association has imposed a temporary ban on Burna Boy’s songs, instructing disc jockeys across Nigeria to exclude the artist from their setlists following his physical clash with DJ Tunez.

The incident occurred on April 6, 2026, at Obi’s House in Lagos. Videos of the altercation quickly gained traction online, showing a chaotic scene in which Burna Boy, his crew, and DJ Tunez who is Wizkid’s official DJ,  involved in a heated disagreement that escalated into a scuffle, leaving DJ Tunez assaulted.

Full details as to what started the fight remain unknown.

Reacting in a lengthy statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the Nigerian DJ Association declared support for DJ Tunez and called for solidarity among its members.

“Here at Nigerian DJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on ‘ALL DJs ARE EQUAL,’ and offering a transparent, personal service to help our DJs and clients achieve their goals and ambitions, both at home and in the Diaspora,” the statement read.

“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? Such are the places where every male and female #NDJ seek equal justice, equal opportunity and equal dignity without discrimination, irrespective of where it’s coming from, be it from a fellow NDJ or NON NDJ. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted action by our #NDJ to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world of DJing in Nigeria as a whole,” the statement continued.

The body then issued a direct instruction to its members:

“Burna Boy’s music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice. Our team will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident that occurred last night involving one of our own, DJ Tunez. We urge DJs in Nigeria as a whole to be vigilant and respectful toward any male or female artist at their events,” excerpts of the statement read.

The Afrobeat artiste is yet to issue an official statement concerning the fight and the temporary ban.
