Former presidential staffer and the communications director to New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reportedly been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra International Airport.
Not much is known about why he has been arrested. According to the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, he has been denied access to his lawyers and his whereabouts are unknown.
“Officers of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) with the help of Immigration officers arrested Dennis Miracles Aboagye at the airport and took into custody. Since then they have denied his lawyers access and his whereabouts is not disclosed with no charges preferred,” Kodua Frimpong wrote on Facebook.
Miracles Aboagye’s arrest also comes just hours after he declared his intention to contest the position of National Communications Director of the NPP in a video shared on X.
On social media, several members of his party have demanded his release.
