The National Film Authority (NFA) has issued a public disclaimer urging aspiring actors to stop paying casting agents and directors for auditions.
In the disclaimer shared on social media by the Authority’s Executive Secretary, Kafui Danku, the NFA emphasised that legitimate casting auditions should never require a fee.
“A genuine audition is an opportunity to showcase your talent, not something you should pay for. Legitimate casting calls do not require an audition fee,” the statement read.

The Authority further advised upcoming actors to carefully scrutinise casting announcements and remain wary of any casting director or organiser who demands money before allowing an audition.
“Stay informed, verify casting announcements, and be cautious of anyone demanding payment before you can audition,” it added. The NFA emphasised that success in the film industry should be based on talent and ability, not financial contributions.
The warning follows growing complaints from aspiring actors who say they have been asked to pay substantial sums by individuals posing as casting directors in exchange for auditions and promised roles in major Ghanaian film productions.
The NFA has consistently urged the public to report suspicious casting activities to the relevant authorities and to rely only on verified announcements from credible production companies and recognised industry bodies.
