Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has denied reports claiming he is seeking to acquire the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), describing the allegations as false and announcing plans to take legal action against those responsible.
The claims surfaced during a demonstration by VALCO’s Labour Union, where some protesters reportedly alleged that Mahama was interested in taking over the state-owned aluminium smelter.
In a statement issued by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, the businessman said he has never expressed interest in acquiring VALCO or made any offer to purchase the company.

“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO,” the statement said.
The statement described the allegations as part of what it called a series of attempts to tarnish Mahama’s reputation and draw him into unnecessary public controversy.
It added that Mahama’s businesses have always been established or acquired through lawful means and continue to operate in full compliance with Ghanaian law. According to the statement, the success of his companies over seven election cycles demonstrates their sound management and adherence to legal and ethical standards.
The statement also reaffirmed Mahama’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic growth through investments in the country and across Africa.
Mahama has instructed his lawyers to begin legal proceedings over what he described as false claims regarding an alleged bid to take over VALCO.
