The Ghana Police Service has warned motorists against paying traffic fines into personal mobile money accounts belonging to road traffic officers.
The warning comes as Ghana rolls out its digital traffic law enforcement system, TrafficTech-GH, which officially took effect on November 1, 2026, to automate the enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the police urged vehicle owners and motorcyclists to remain vigilant against fraud, stressing that traffic fines should be paid only through approved payment channels and not into personal mobile money accounts or unofficial bank accounts.

”Motorists and vehicle owners are strongly advised to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraud. Never pay a traffic fine into a personal mobile-money number or through any unofficial account,” the statement read.
In the statement, the Ghana Police Service urged motorists who receive traffic violation notifications to verify that the sender ID is GPS-MTTD, stressing that traffic fine notifications will not be sent from personal mobile phone numbers.
The police further advised drivers to review their Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) or traffic ticket and verify the images of their vehicles, registration number, location, date and time of the offence, as well as any accompanying video evidence.
The Ghana Police Service also added that traffic fines can be paid through the NIB Payment Portal by visiting https://traffictech-ghpay.nib.com.gh, selecting ‘Make Payment’, entering the ticket number and following the payment prompts after checking the details.
