The Omanhene of Sampa Traditional Area, Nana Samgba Gyafla II, has expressed sadness at the turn of events at Sampa in the Gyaman North District of the Bono Region on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, emphasizing that, “there is no justification for killing anyone”
While the world marked the day with solemn church services to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, guns were blazing in Sampa, leading to several deaths and some people sustaining injuries.
In a statement dated April 1, 2024, Nana Gyafla reiterated his commitment to the path of peace and peaceful co-existence of all communities and people within the Sampa Traditional Area.
“I condemn any act of violence wherever expressed by whom and in whatever form, as doing so, will tarnish the image of the Traditional Area and deprive the area of its fair share of development. I want to use this opportunity to call on the government to continue to work for security, peace, and safety of all persons and communities within the Sampa Traditional Area”, he said.
The Sampa Omanhene appealed to the business community to remain calm and continue doing their business within the Traditional Area as the security agencies are capable of providing and providing peace you require for your business.
He made it clear that “what happened on Good Friday was unfortunate, and measures are being put in place to prevent such occurrence again.”
“Nananom of the Traditional Area value our partnership with you, and as paramount chief of the Traditional Area, I will do everything legally possible to provide a conducive environment for your businesses to flourish to enable my people get jobs”, he assured.
“Those who lost their relatives, my heart and that of the Traditional Council are with you. We wish those who were injured speedy recovery. Most importantly, the security agencies will investigate and bring the perpetrators to book”, he stressed.
The Omanhene urged the media to be agents of peace calling on them to refrain from comments that would inflame passions but rather, carry messages that would foster peaceful coexistence.
