John Mahama Appoints Yohuno as IGP

In a significant but surprising development within Ghana's law enforcement leadership, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has been appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), succeeding Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has appointed COP Yohuno as Inspector General of Police (IGP), replacing George Akuffo Dampare.

This decision, sighted by NowAccra, follows the advice of the Council of State, subject to Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 constitution.

COP Yohuno brings to the position over four decades of dedicated service within the Ghana Police Service. His extensive career includes key roles such as Director-General in charge of Administration and Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department.

In January 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and appointed Director-General of Police Operations, with the aim to enhance public safety and operational efficiency.

In 2024, former President Akufo Addo appointed Yuhono as Deputy IGP in charge of operations.
