The Parliament of Ghana will hold additional sittings on Mondays and Saturdays beginning today, July 7, 2025, in order to clear pending legislative business ahead of its scheduled adjournment on Saturday, July 12.
The announcement was made by Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, who explained that the additional sittings are to allow for the maturity of some Legislative Instruments before MPs go on recess.
Ahead of this recess, 55 government ministers and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama are expected to appear in the House to answer questions.
“Motions may be debated and their consequential Resolutions, if any, taken during the week. In accordance with Standing Order 216(2) and subject to Standing Order 67, the Committee submits to the House, the order in which the business shall be taken,” Ayariga is quoted as saying.
The EC Chair, Madam Jean Mensa may also appear before MPs to answer questions over the announcement to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been one of the sides that has not welcomed that decision.
The Ablekuma North Constituency has been without an MP since the 2024 elections ended.
