The Electoral Commission has announced it would conduct a by-election in the Tamale Central Constituency on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
This follows the death of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the former MP for the area who tragically lost his life with seven others in the helicopter crash on August 6.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the EC said nominations from candidates will be received at its Tamale Metropolitan Office from Monday, September 8, 2025, to Wednesday, September 10, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.

The filing fee for the election is set at GHC 10,000 per candidate. However, the filling fee for women candidates and Persons with Disabilities had been pegged at GHC 7500.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will not contest the by-election, citing respect for the late MP. The ruling National Democratic Congress has, however, yet to select a candidate to represent its late MP.
The Tamale Central by-election would be the second of such election to be held in September.
