Senegalese-born American singer Aliaune Thiam, popularly known as Akon, has announced his upcoming documentary, “Akon: From Africa to the World.”
Directed by David Serero, the interview-style documentary focuses on Akon’s Senegalese heritage, upbringing, and family in Dakar, as well as his transition to the United States. The documentary sheds light on Akon’s early experiences with music and his journey to becoming one of the prominent African American singers. The Grammy-nominated artist, who does not shy away from his African roots, exclusively shared the driving forces behind his philanthropic endeavours aimed at changing lives in Africa, through his million dollar worth projects.
Filmmaker and opera singer, David Serero, known for documentaries including “Rocancour, le Film” and “The United States of Elie Tahiri,” noted that the cinematic piece is “not about fame; it’s about identity, purpose, and showing the true spirit of how Africans have sacrificed their own dreams to help others.”
