The first trailer for Michael Jackson’s latest biopic has generated significant buzz among fans of the late star.
The trailer opens with a voice over from Quincy Jones (played by Kendrick Sampson), who says, “I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are made; the songs are ready. Let’s take it from the top. This is your story. I know your past and embrace the future. That is what the people want.” This message aims to calm fans who have been eagerly anticipating a proper cinematic representation of the King of Pop’s life.
In the preview, Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, portrays many of his uncle’s iconic musical moments on stage and music videos, as well as his journey with his brothers in the Jackson 5. According to a synopsis, the film “tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music,” tracing his journey from his early days as the lead of the Jackson 5 to his rise as a visionary artist. The film boasts an all-star cast, including Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, Coleman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller, and Laura Harrier.
“Michael,” directed by Antoine Fuqua (Equalizer and Training Day), promises to give fans a deeper look into the life, legacy, and genius of Michael Joseph Jackson, rather than rehashing his legal woes or childhood trauma, as previous documentaries have done.
“Michael” is set for theatrical release on April 24, 2026, after a series of delays. The film was initially scheduled for release in April 2025, but the date was pushed to October. However, reshoots were needed in June, pushing the release once again to April 2026.
