El-Wak Stampede Update: 3 Victims Out of ICU, 16 Still on Admission

In the latest update about the victims involved in the military recruitment stampede, it has emerged that three of the five admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the 37 Military hospital have seen improvements in their conditions.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eye Witness News on Monday, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Acting Director-General of the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), revealed that the three victims have since been transferred to another ward.

“The injured are doing well, they are at the hospital, and they are receiving the best of care. On the day of the incident, we had five people in the ICU. As we speak, three of them are doing well and they have been moved to another ward,” she said.

She added that of the 29 people brought to the hospital, 16 are still on admission, as authorities work to ensure they receive the needed care.

“On the day of the incident, 29 people were brought to the hospital. As we speak now, we have about 16 currently there. Others are all receiving care, some have been discharged, and they have gone home, and they are getting the best of care. We are praying that we do not lose another life, so we are giving them all the best that we can.”

The stampede that occurred on November 12 came after thousands of potential recruits thronged into the El-Wak stadium, creating a situation that not just resulted in fatalities, but also caused injuries to others.

At least six people were confirmed dead following the stampede.
