Film director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan are reuniting for a live-action epic about Mansa Musa, the legendary 14th-century African emperor and richest person in recorded history.
Previously announced last year, the untitled project is now in production phase. Ryan Coogler will write and direct, with Jordan starring as the Malian ruler whose opulent pilgrimage to Mecca reshaped the political and economic landscape of West African medieval regions he traversed.
The filmmaking duo whose collaborations include “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” “Black Panther,” and “Sinners” will explore Mansa Musa’s political power, military conquests, spiritual devotion, and lasting cultural legacy.
Renowned for his unimaginable wealth, Mansa Musa transformed the Mali Empire into a global center of trade, Islamic scholarship, and learning.
His lavish investments turned Timbuktu into one of the era’s greatest intellectual and architectural hubs, leaving an indelible mark on African and world history.
No release date for the film has been announced yet.
