Renowned Ghanaian gospel singer, Maame Tiwaa, of Yaw Sarpong and the Asomafo fame, has passed away at the age of 62.
The Ghana News Agency reports that she died in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Born Mary Tiwaa, she rose to become one of the most revered voices in Ghana’s gospel music landscape due to her soul-lifting vocals. For more than three decades, her powerful vocals and profound spiritual depth endeared her to worshippers across the nation.
Maame Tiwaa played an integral role in creating some of Asomafo’s most iconic songs, including “Wo Haw Ne Sen,” “Awurade Ka Me Ho,” “Yen Fa Oye Nkoaa,” and “Mensuro.” These tracks not only defined the group’s sound but also became cherished nationwide hits.
Beyond her work with the group, she was admired for her solo ministrations, which many described as deeply anointed and emotionally stirring.
Earlier this year, she delivered a heartfelt performance during the 2025 TGMA tribute to gospel legend Yaw Sarpong, a moment that has since been celebrated as one of her most memorable appearances.
