The Adentan-Frafraha District Court 1 has debunked reports that it ordered Black Sherif to pay GH¢229,500 in rent arrears, stating that no judgment has been made against the singer.
Earlier this week, social media and blog sites reported, based on a document circulating online, that Black Sherif had been ordered by the court to pay rent arrears of GH¢229,500, including interest, for his East Legon, Adjiriganor residence.
The document in question appears to be related to a case filed by Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, who claims that Black Sherif owes GH¢229,500 in rent arrears. However, further investigation reveals that the building in question, located at House No. 4, Recreational Close, NTHC Estates, Adjiringanor, Accra, is not Black Sherif’s personal residence. Instead, it serves as an office space and studio for the Road Boys Association (RBA), the creative imprint and record label affiliated with Black Sherif, which is responsible for managing his music career.
Contrary to the misinformation online, the document circulating online refers to Dr. Awittor’s claim for alleged outstanding rent for the East Legon property as of July 31, 2025, rather than an official court ruling.
According to a close source of the musician, “the property in dispute had previously been attached by the High Court in Accra for sale due to a judgment debt owed by the property owners, who reportedly auctioned the property in 2024. As a result, the plaintiff named in the alleged court documents, Evelyn Esi Awittor, is no longer the lawful owner or landlady of the property.”
The case is still in its early stages and has not gone to trial. A court hearing is scheduled for March 3, 2026, when both parties will appear in court.
