Ghana Road Statistics: 2,949 Persons Killed in 2025

Pedestrians remained among the most vulnerable road users. The data shows that 2,561 pedestrians were knocked down in traffic crashes between January and December 2025, up from 2,394 in the previous year.

A total of 2,949 people lost their lives in 14,743 road traffic crashes across Ghana between January and December 2025, representing a sharp increase compared to 2024, provisional data from the National Road Safety Authority has revealed.

The number of crashes rose from 13,489 in 2024 to 14,743 in 2025, reflecting a 9.3 percent increase. Alongside the rise in crashes was a corresponding growth in vehicle involvement, with 24,938 vehicles recorded in crashes during the year, up from 22,975 vehicles in 2024. This represents an 8.5 percent increase.

Fatalities recorded in 2025 rose significantly, climbing from 2,494 deaths in 2024 to 2,949 deaths, an increase of 455 lives lost. This translates into an 18.2 percent rise in road traffic deaths, making fatalities the fastest-growing indicator among all road crash statistics for the year.

Injuries from road traffic crashes also increased during the period under review. A total of 16,714 people sustained injuries in 2025, compared to 15,607 injured persons recorded in 2024.

This reflects a 7.1 percent increase, further highlighting the growing burden of road traffic crashes on public health and emergency services.
