Togo Announces Visa Free Travel For All Africans

The visa exemption, however, comes with conditions - it is limited to stays of up to 30 days and does not exempt travelers from existing security, health or immigration requirements

Togo has introduced visa-free travel by abolishing entry visa requirements for nationals of all African Union member states holding a valid passport, the government announced on Monday.

The visa exemption, however, comes with conditions – it is limited to stays of up to 30 days and does not exempt travelers from existing security, health or immigration requirements.

Travelers must, however, complete their travel declaration on the official platform voyage.gouv.tg at least 24 hours before their arrival in order to obtain their travel slip,” a government statement said.

The announcement was made by Faure Gnassingbé, President of Togo’s Council of Ministers, at the opening of the Biashara Afrika Business Forum, being hosted in Lomé. The measure takes effect immediately.

“Officials said the measure aligns with pan-African integration goals and regional commitments on mobility, while also seeking to deepen cooperation between African states and make the country more attractive to investors, entrepreneurs and visitors from across the continent,” reports online portal Togofirst.

Togo now joins a number of African countries, including Rwanda, Ghana, The Gambia and Benin, that have adopted visa-free entry policies for fellow Africans.
