The National Film Authority (NFA) has officially launched a Film Development Fund aimed at tackling the persistent financial challenges facing the Ghanaian film industry.

The launch, which took place at the Silverbird Cinema in Accra, also saw the inauguration of two key committees: the Film Development Fund Management Committee and the Film Classification Committee.

Speaking at the event, NFA Chief Executive Officer Kafui Danku described the initiative as a necessary intervention for the industry.

“The establishment of the Film Development Fund is one of the most significant institutional interventions towards addressing a long-standing challenge within the industry, particularly in the area of financing and investment support,” she said.

Kafui Danku explained that the Fund is designed to create sustainable business opportunities for industry players and creatives as well.

“The Fund is therefore intended to create opportunities for filmmakers, producers, distributors, exhibitors, content creators, and industry entrepreneurs to grow more sustainable businesses, create jobs, expand audiences, and increase the global visibility of Ghanaian stories and content,” she added.

She stressed that the future progress of Ghanaian cinema will depend on a collective approach involving strong policies, strategic partnerships, and robust governance frameworks.

Explaining the roles of the two bodies, she noted that the Film Development Fund Management Committee will oversee the management and disbursement of the Fund, while the Film Classification Committee will be responsible for maintaining responsible content production standards and classification.
