Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has stated that he retired from music three years ago.
The revelation was made during an in-flight interview with media personality Bola Ray on Thursday, May 28, 2026, en route to the United Kingdom for promotional activities ahead of the UK edition of Shattafest.
When asked whether he had built enough wealth to walk away from the industry, Shatta Wale confidently declared that he remains financially secure.

“I retired from music three years ago,” he stated, adding that he has since shifted his energy from music production to building a diversified business portfolio aimed at creating long-term generational wealth.
Among his active ventures, the artiste highlighted the ride-hailing service Shaxi and the Hot Wave Phone collaboration. He also announced the recent launch of an online marketplace application developed by his team of international software engineers. The platform is designed to digitize local trade, with an initial focus on Accra’s popular Tuesday Market.
“Something explosive is coming,” he said. “That is what we launched yesterday, and it’s beautiful.”
Shatta Wale further disclosed that his corporate interests have attracted significant international investment interest from key commercial hubs, including China and Dubai.
Addressing his recent social media criticisms of the Ghanaian music industry, he clarified his intentions.
“Sometimes people see me shouting on social media and they think I am frustrated,” he explained. “I have money but I don’t want to see my colleagues and upcoming artists suffer.”
His comments follow a social media post in which he emphasized the need for substantial financial investment into Ghana’s music industry, noting that “one man cannot do it all.”
While it remains unclear whether this declaration signals a permanent exit from music or just another clever Shatta Wale strategy to stay in the headlines the dancehall artiste continues to demonstrate his influence as one of Ghana’s most polarizing entertainers.
