DopeNation’s ‘Kakalika’ Makes Spotify’s Official 2026 Songs of Summer List

The track was selected among 30 songs expected to define the summer season globally. Spotify highlighted “Kakalika” as a standout song in its global dance hits category, noting that the song cleverly blends Ghanaian azonto rhythms with South African amapiano influences.

Music streaming giant Spotify has included Ghanaian duo DopeNation’s hit single “Kakalika” in its official 2026 Songs of Summer predictions editorial.

The track was selected among 30 songs expected to define the summer season globally. Spotify highlighted “Kakalika” as a standout song in its global dance hits category, noting that the song cleverly blends Ghanaian azonto rhythms with South African amapiano influences.

DopeNation’s inclusion places them alongside major international artists such as Ariana Grande, Drake, Tems, Tame Impala, Zara Larsson, and Doja Cat.

The recognition comes on the back of “Kakalika’s” remarkable international traction earlier this year. The song gained massive global attention, particularly after several football teams and players adopted its signature dance moves during goal celebrations.

The duo credited online creators and dance challenges for propelling the song beyond Ghana’s borders. They specifically pointed to the popular “Swengi Mame” trend as a major factor that introduced “Kakalika” to a wider international audience.

Footballers who have performed the Kakalika dance include Barcelona stars Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde, who celebrated after Barcelona’s El Clásico victory over Real Madrid in the 2025/26 La Liga finals. Days earlier, PSG players Achraf Hakimi and Désiré Doué also joined the trend following their team’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League final.

Building on this momentum, DopeNation’s “Kakalika” has since morphed into a full cultural phenomenon, sparking strong calls for it to be adopted as the official soundtrack for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
