The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has resigned to pursue a national executive role within his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He announced his resignation in a statement, where he said his decision was motivated by a desire to continue serving the party and the country in a different capacity.
“This decision is driven by my desire to continue serving our party and country in a different capacity, while contributing to the strengthening of our democratic traditions and institutions,” he stated.
The resignation comes days after he disclosed in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News that he was prepared to contest for the NDC National Chairmanship should the party’s current National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, decide not to seek re-election.
He also becomes the first appointee to resign following party rules barring all serving government appointees from contesting executive positions unless they resign from their appointments.
