The Recording Academy has announced five new categories for the 2027 Grammy Awards, further expanding recognition across diverse musical styles and genres.
The new categories include Best Asian Pop Music Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, Best Latin Song, Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, and Best Traditional Folk Album.
In a statement, the Academy said the new categories aim to highlight collaborative performances, song writing excellence, and longstanding genre traditions that have gained significant cultural impact in recent years. For example, the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category will recognize contemporary pop recordings from Asian markets, including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, reflecting the explosive global growth of Asian music. Similarly, the Best Latin Song category will honour outstanding song writing in one of the world’s fastest-growing music sectors.

This expansion continues the Grammy’s push for broader inclusivity, building on the successful introduction of the Best African Music Performance category. South Africa’s Tyla became the first winner of the category in 2024, followed by Nigeria’s Tems, who won in 2025. Tyla secured her second win in the category at the 68th Grammy Awards in 2026.
The 69th Annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 7, 2027, will be the first ceremony to feature all five new categories.
